     The perfect replacement for the E96 rotary tone hole files that Cliff introduced so many years ago, with the additional benefit of an oversized 2" standard round.  The E96's largest rotary file was 1 7/8".  These great new E97's can be custom made any size up to 3 1//2" (88.9mm), on special order.

     Actually, many repairmen have been using this method for over 15 years; using the back side of our now discontinued E96 rotary tone hole files and gluing on an abrasive material.  In fact, I just ran across a NOS set of "RT288 Tone Hole Finishers " made and sold by Erick Brand to many repairmen back in the late 50's and early 60's.   Do you remember these?

     As you can see from this 1971 catalog page these were the aluminum discs on which you glued an abrasive media disc.  There was a set of 7.  They were made from aluminum so that the  abrasive could be cleaned with out rusting the tools.
     Several people have made these since then and they have been used by many repairmen over the years.  We acquired these when we bought Erick Brand back in the early 90's as part of the stock in trade.

     Here is the new set, machined of billet brass

     These new diamond and brass refacing tools are now available in two different grits, Standard 400 and Extra Fine 800.  For both cutting or deburring depending on the need.
     For doing really fine tone hole work without the guessing and approximate precision of not having a tool made for the specific purpose of leveling and smoothing the tone hole surface.
     These tools are designed with the intent to allow you to both smooth and level a tone hole quickly and easily. You can use the E96 files first and then dress off and finish up with these fine brass and diamond E97 Tone Hole Refacing tools.  These tools save on fingers, hands and fingertips.

     These new refacing tools use the same proven rotary method used with the old E96 set.  The new E97 set contains the same pilot discs, handles and wrenches, but is crafted from billet machined brass to hold a diamond disc as a precision cutting surface.  These tools are made from brass to allow cleaning of the abrasive diamond disc with a toothbrush and plain water.  If desired you may order a set of these brass refacing tools with either the 400 or 800 grit.  All of these pieces are available individually.

     NOTE: We Do Not Recommend trying to change the Rounds over from one grit to another and back again, as the Diamond Disc becomes unusable, if this is attempted.  It would be more economical to order an extra set of Rounds and Diamond Discs of the other grit because everything else is the same, or order a whole new other set.
