A Stroke of Luck-
What do a 1910 French Besson Trumpet and a 1971 Japanese Conn
19A Cornet have in common?
Last week we were going to fix a trumpet for a friend of many years.
The lower main tuning slide rail had broken off about 3/4" from the ferrule or connection ring as it is
sometimes called. Where to get parts? It's a good thing that Dad
had taught me to
improvise from the bone yard.

The original bell and text on the horn I had overhauled and silverplated 35 years ago.

Cottage industry valve section, (notice the 7,8 & 9) Horns and broken piece.

Both horns and the broken and replacement parts. IDENTICAL diameter.

Here is the donor 19A cornet and the finished repair with the old piece.
The cornet outside tube is shorter because, I made a new connection ring, too.
