This G78 Socket Grafting Jig isn't really NEW, but it is to some.
Once you are established as a repairman, your public comes to expect that you can do
just about ANYTHING. Why? Because, "we all, want them to". We
want them to come to us for ALL of their repair needs, not just a pad or two.
What can you offer?

When a Good clarinet gets dropped or sat on, what happens? The joint
splits and a job is created. You can save the day
for the student and that families budget. Properly done a socket graft procedure
is undetectable
from any other instrument. That's were YOU come in!
Many repairmen have shied away from doing woodwind
machine work fearing that it is too precise or too dangerous. If
you can read calipers, or, in my case Dial Calipers. You are in thousandths with NO problem.
It
is just a matter of doing a procedure that is as simple a 1-2-3. Keep in
mind that many things we do on almost a daily basis are considered dangerous by the
careless or the unknowing. Proper safety methods should always be
instilled as part of your normal repair procedure. These safety procedures are
part of the curriculum in many of the colleges teaching band instrument repair,
where most students aren't even 21. Safety is a "Learned
Behavior".
These schools want their graduates to be 'complete repairmen', and there is
nothing wrong with that. It is clean and rewarding work.
The only thing 'out of the ordinary'
part in this area is the expense of a lathe and drill press. (Or a good used milling machine.)
There is a lot of good quality, low priced machinery available today to do
these jobs that
was not even available as little as 10 years ago. GRIZZLY comes to mind. (www.grizzly.com) They have a good little G4000 9" x 19" Bench Lathe
for about $900 +s/h and a real lathe, the G9972 11" x 26
Light Duty Model for about $1400 delivered, last I knew. Then there are some that look like toys
that may also work as well, you will have to decide that for yourself.
As with all specialty jobs, there is a certain amount of learned experience.
The epoxies of today as well as the super glues or 'hot stuffs' have greatly simplified doing socket grafts, tone hole replacement and tenon replacement.
Common sense and a slow hand add quality to these jobs; making them your potential bread and butter jobs.
In fact, there are about 5 or 6 repairmen across the
country doing these repairs mail order.
It is a WIDE-OPEN
market. While you must always strive for perfection; the perfect
"END JOB" is the name of the game.
YOU CAN DO IT, and should be doing it.
This great tool is only $264.50+s/h
