The Adjustable Socket Reamer that YOU designed

Detailed picture of the G83 If you could have, this is the reamer YOU would have designed to square up
and true the inside of Bb Soprano Clarinet Sockets
that just had the joint tenon safety ring tightened or the tenon/socket
replaced, or was misshapen in the first place.
No more hand carving with a knife or scraper and merely 'getting it close' or 'good enough' to work. You
start at the size you have, increase in small increments to the finished size
YOU WANT. We recommend you use dial calipers to insure the parallel of the
blade with the tool and in first sizing the tool to the inside of the socket.
Once your start point has been determined, it is a matter of "feel" as to how
you go. We found that about a half turn usually worked pretty good, but
some times only 1/3 turn of expansion worked better. Do not try to take
large cuts all at one time. This is not a machine tool, it is a hand tool
and we're just skimming a small amount off at a time. This practice will
also serve to keep you from going too far and over expanding your socket. With the G83 you can resurface or smooth jobs that were done imperfectly in the past.
Also good for clean up after a SocketGraft has been performed; for removal of glue in the corner or as
a fine
adjustment of size. In addition, you can "true to size" a perfectly round, a warped or
an ovaled
socket. The G83 works on the mouthpiece, upper and middle
sockets.
This fine tool features an adjustable depth collar, and an adjustable SINGLE cutting blade
and sleeve to avoid chattering. An OPTIONAL separate blade and collar are available
(pictured below) to allow the G83 to ALSO be used on the Bell Socket.

Free G83 UpDate modification - 8/11/05
As you have come to expect from Ferree's, when we modify
a tool to a great degree it is usually, if practical, offered to you as a nominally priced UpDate.
There are many such UpDate's listed on our website.
In this case, we have notified in writing all
known owners of the G83, because of changes of tool ownership and the specialized nature of the tool and of
the UpDate itself.
If YOU wish, just send back the blade and it will be
sharpened to the new specifications discovered after much continuing research and
development to do both wood and plastic sockets, with the same blade.
If you have the optional "tall" blade for the bell tenon,
send that one back, too. We will recondition your original blade(s) to the new
specifications at NO cost to you (Other than shipping) and so you can copy the
effect when re-sharpening them in the future, so that it will be and can stay the
same as the ones being sold today. (Now, that's pretty nominal, isn't it?)
If you prefer to keep your present blade as is, you may
order either new specification replacement blade as G83A and G83B (tall) for $47.50 each.
Change was made 8/10/05.
