New Z60-38 & 39

New Flute head & body mandrels
      for the Z60 Dent machine.

It was bound to happen.  At the NAPBIRT 2002 Convention a Repairman asked if the N87A trombone pliers would work on a flute.  I said, "I don't know, let's see."  I tried them and they did work with some care
Then another, older Repairman said, "I've got Arthritis, can we do this on the dent machine?"  So, we took the upper roller from the Z60-37 Trombone Slide Roller Set (available separately as Z60-37A) and tried it with a tapered mandrel.  Eureka!  We found he could now do the head joints with tools he already had
When I got back to the shop I had Steve turn down the ends of the N75 & N76 so that they would 'plug in' to the new Z60-14 rod that has come standard on all Z60's for the last year or so.  Or, if you have had your Z60 for a while, you can send the old rod in for the "Z60 Rod Mod" and have your rod re-machined to accept all the new slugs and inserts that are now available.  (See pages on Z60-14 and Z60-14 Rod Mod.)
On the flute you will want to use the Z60-16A Sax body roller to get closer to the tones holes, etc. and reduce any interference.  You can't do it all, but you CAN do enough to make it worth while.  Some final hand finishing and you've saved some real time.  Remember, the most common mistake people make is using TOO MUCH PRESSURE.  "Take your time, and you will save time
".  Also, in terms of technique, you can offset the contact point of this little roller so that you can really 'snug up' to things and still not cause a crease.
It is recommended that you use our Z6 Poly-Lube mixed with your petroleum jelly to further reduce the effort you must use because of the strength and thickness of these tubes.
Both of these tools may also be used in a vise,
                in the conventional manner
.

The Z60-38 flute head mandrel is just $39.50
The Z60-39 flute body mandrel is only $34.50
